A step-by-step plan to attract, convert and measure enquiries

Good lead generation isn’t about being everywhere. It’s about making deliberate choices: who you want to reach, where you can serve them, what they need to know and how you’ll handle their enquiry.

The Solar Bob UK course gives MCS-certified installers a 12-week framework to work through those choices and strengthen their marketing process.

What you’ll work through

Week 1: Choose one main customer segment

Trying to speak to every possible customer can make your website and advertising vague. Choose one clearly defined group to focus on first. Use that focus to shape your messaging, campaign choices and sales process.

Week 2: Define your service area

Set out where your business can realistically serve customers before creating location pages or running local adverts. A written policy helps keep your marketing aligned with your actual coverage and capacity.

Week 3: Fix your website before buying traffic

Make it easy for visitors to understand what you install, where you work and what they should do next. Review the clarity of your content, the enquiry journey and how the site works on mobile before paying to send more visitors.

Week 4: Set up and maintain your Google Business Profile

Review your business details, services, photographs and customer reviews. Keep information accurate and up to date so potential customers can understand your business and contact you.

Week 5: Run Google Search Ads first

Start with people actively searching for a service you offer. Build a focused search campaign around relevant intent before expanding into broad display activity, purchased lead lists or untargeted social campaigns.

Week 6: Build local SEO systematically

Create useful content for the areas you genuinely serve. The goal is to help local customers find relevant information and understand why your business may suit their needs—not to publish thin pages that simply swap in a different town name.

Week 7: Use planning and compliance as conversion content

Customers may have questions about planning and installation requirements. Learn to explain considerations clearly and responsibly. Permitted development may apply to many domestic installations, but it is not automatic in every situation; circumstances and local requirements matter.

Week 8: Create a referral channel

Build a simple, repeatable way to encourage suitable introductions from customers and relevant business contacts. Referrals can be a valuable lead source, but they still need a process and consistent follow-through.

Week 9: Produce one case study every month

A useful case study shows the project, the customer’s priorities, the solution and the work involved. With permission, it can provide more specific evidence than a general claim about quality.

Week 10: Respond to new leads quickly

A homeowner may contact several installers at once. Create a process for acknowledging new enquiries, recording the details and arranging the next step promptly.

Week 11: Follow up after sending a quotation

Many customers need time and may have questions before deciding. Plan a courteous follow-up sequence, record what happens and make it easy for the customer to respond.

Week 12: Track the numbers that determine profitability

Create a monthly report showing results by channel. Review enquiry volume, lead quality, quotations, sales and costs so you can make better-informed decisions about where to focus.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for UK solar PV and battery-storage installers with MCS certification who want to build a more deliberate approach to generating and managing enquiries.

It may be especially useful for businesses that are ready to review their website, local presence, response process and channel performance—and then put improvements into practice.

Led by Robert “Bob” Wheeler

Because Bob runs the course personally, the number of places is limited.
